Good morning!
The Hawking Foundation (an NGO is existence since 1995) has now created the World Virtual School and is offering PreK-20 courses, entirely online. http://www.world-virtual-school.com/
Students pay only a minimal membership fee each year, based on their native country's GDP. For instance, a student from Zimbabwe would pay $1 USD each year, but could take up to 6 free online courses (equally a years worth of high school credits) while a student from the United States would pay $225 for 6 courses.
Schools, corporations and countries can also purchase memberships which allow them to offer courses for approximately $30 per student, far below the medium cost of online high school courses, $250-$300 USD. NGOs of the UN have free membership and courses can also be leased to be resold with a profit-sharing agreement with the WVS.
The World Virtual School offers more than 300 courses; remedial, Advanced Placement, Middle School Diploma, High School Diploma, International High School Diploma, and more than 35 career vocational tracks.
Career-vocational courses include everything from Automotive technology to Carpentry, Masonry and Welding, as well as technology, business, legal, medical, and office management courses. Career-vocational courses are approved by the American Council of Education (ACE) and other courses are accredited by A.C.I.I.E. The Accreditation Commission for International Internet Education.
We currently have members from 56 countries, many who are NGOs or telecentres promoting free education within their regions. If you have any comments, concerns, questions about how we are supported, our infrastructure, course development and deliverance, or other issues, please feel free to leave a comment.
